UP High Batch '84 golf tees off today in Mactan

CEBU, Philippines – Alumni, parents of graduates, friends, and supporters of the University of the Philippines Cebu High School will gather today at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City for a tournament organized by Batch ’84 Inc.

This will be an 18-hole tournament using the System-36 handicapping format.

This handicapping system gives each player a handicap of 36 at the start of the round. The player then earns points after each hole is played where a par or better is worth two points, bogey one, and double-bogey or worse is zero.

The total points earned after the round will then be deducted from the original handicap of 36 to determine the player’s System-36 handicap for the round.

The players will be classified under three handicap categories and a special division for junior golfers has been added.

Entry fee is pegged at P2,000 per player, which already covers the green fee, caddie fee, dinner, snacks, raffle and a giveaway package.

The members of class 1984 of the school organized this event to raise funds for various projects that they are undertaking to benefit their alma mater.

Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia, her brother Rep. Pablo John Garcia, Pagcor, Panasonic, and Smart Communications are the major sponsors of the event. Rep. Garcia is also a member of the host class.

Minor backers of the tournament are Skygo, La Mesa Grill, Opascor, British Airways, Pulchra Beach Resort, Roble Shipping, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Cokaliong Shipping, and CASE Law.

Also supporting the event are Granstar Motors, Asiana Ship Management, Forbidden Golf Club, ARL maritime Services Inc., Rhine Marketing, Education and Training Family, Philippine Army, and Santa Isabel Child Development Center.

The tee off time has been set between 6 am to 9 am, but organizers said that arrangement have been made for those who want to tee off later in the day.

The awards ceremony will be held at the clubhouse of MIGC this 6:30 p.m. —NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
