Cebu, Bukidnon bets pace CCC jungolf tourney
CEBU, Philippines - Players from the host club and visitors from Bukidnon set the early pace in the 2009 Cebu Country Club Junior Open, which teed off yesterday at the par-72 course.
This two-day tournament has drawn together a total of 115 players from Cebu, Zamboanga, Bukidnon, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and Manila.
This is the final leg of the Vismin Circuit, which opened in Del Monte and went to Bacolod last week.
Gatorade, Pepsi and Redgolf are supporting the tournament.
Setting the pace for special division for those 18 to 23 years old is Banny Abaño of Del Monte with an opening round of one-over-par 73 strokes. Bayani Garcia of CCC is two shots off the pace and at third is Charles Daniel Uy also of CCC with 76 strokes.
Del Monte’s Reymon Jaraula leads class A (15 to 17 years old) for the boys’ division with 75 strokes. Running second is his teammate Clyde Mondilla with 78 while Aguinaldo Golf Club’s Agustin Mata with 78 is at third.
For class B (13 to 14 years old), CCC’s Lloyd Jefferson ‘LJ’ Go opened with a two-over-par 74 strokes and is followed by Aristeo Mata of Aguinaldo with 78. Running third is Marc Oliver Los Baños of Del Monte with 80 strokes.
Gen Nagai of the host club leads class C (11 to 12 years old) shooting 78 strokes yesterday while Alta Vista’s John Philip Hernandez is at second with 85 and at third is JJ Gamolo of Del Monte with 85.
Alta Vista’s Weiyu Gao paces class E for the boys with 36 strokes in their opening nine holes. He is tied with Russel Bautista of Del Monte.
In the girls’ division, CCC’s Abby Olea paces class A with 79 strokes along with Del Monte’s Kristine Leonen. Marian Woo of Del Monte trails the pair with her opening round of 83.
For class B, May Ann Arbole of Del Monte leads with an opening round of 99 followed by Jinsil Kwak of CCC with 108.
Del Monte’s Pamela Mariano leads class C with 81 strokes followed by San Juanico’s Christine Caminade with 94.
Sofia Chabon of Pueblo de Oro leads class E with 40 strokes followed Junia Gabasa of Alta Vista with 43 and Martina Miñoza of Del Monte with 44.
Results of the event were relayed to The Freeman by lawyer Jovi Neri, chairman of the jungolf program of CCC.
The players with the best aggregate after this lead of the three-stage Vismin Circuit will be declared as golfer of the year for their age category. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
