CEBU, Philippines - Canduman sealed its elimination round campaign with an 8-1 thrashing of the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit (SHS-J) in the boys 10 division of the 9th Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) National Inter-Club Football Cup yesterday at the PAREF-Springdale field.
Despite the loss, SHS-J still marched into the semifinals courtesy of a superior quotient over Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Team 2.
Canduman and SHS-J were joined into the penultimate round by DBTC Teams 1 and 3.
In the boys 12-under class, Springdale , Pomeroy, SHS-J and Canduman made up the Big Four.
Springdale, on the other hand, took the lead in the 17-under age classification with a clean 2-0 slate. The Springdale booters annihilated Blessed John Seminary, 7-0, before wiping out Inter-Cebu FC, 55-0. DBTC paces the other group also without defeat in two games.
In the boys 14-under played at the San Roque Parish field, SHS-J snapped out of its two-game slump with a 4-0 whitewash of Blessed John Seminary.
DBTC stayed on top of in the boys 14-under with an immaculate 4-0 record.
Over at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center (USC-TC) field in Talambam, Hiroshi scored a 5-3 victory over San Roque Football Club to tighten its grip of the men’s open lead with an unblemished 3-0 card.
The University of Cebu-ERCO bounced back from a previous setback, but had to go through the wringer before dispatching the gritty Boholano visitors, 3-2.
In the other men’s open duel, SRFC triumphed over the Army squad, 1-0. The loss sent the Armymen into a do-or-die match against Queen City United-B today, with the winner advancing into the next level. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
