CEBU, Philippines - Irin Baluran gave Team Cebu City its first gold in the 2009 Milo-National Open Track and Field Championships yesterday at the Don Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Baluran got her first gold through the girls long jump.
The University of Cebu standout was running second until a lucky jump on her last try came up.
Baluran leaped to a personal-best distance of 5.33 meters for a golden finish.
Apart from getting the gold and recording her best performance in the event, Baluran also avenged to her loss against a jumper from Ilocos during the PRISA National Games.
Baluran hopes to sustain her momentum in her remaining events including the triple jump where she got a gold last year.
TCC is fielding in 13 entries in the boys division and seven in the distaff side.
The TCC athletes were accompanied in their Lingayen sojourn by coaches Babette Capangpangan, Zosiliana Erana, Genaro Macayan, Daniel Erana, and Lyle Larida. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
