UP High golfest tees off May 15 in Mactan

CEBU, Philippines - The 1st University of the Philippines Cebu High School Batch ’84 Inc. Fun Golf Tournament tees off this Friday at the par-72 Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City.

The tournament is open to everyone and not only to alumni of UP Cebu High School. Entry fee is pegged at P2,000.

Major backers of the event are Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia, Cebu 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia, Pagcor, Panasonic, and Smart Communications.

Lending support as minor sponsors are Skygo, La Mesa Grill, Opascor, British Airways, Pulchra Beach Resort, Roble Shipping, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Cokaliong Shipping, and CASE Law.

The tournament will follow the System-36 handicapping format where each participant starts the round with a handicap of 36. As each hole is played, a participant earns two points for par or better, one for bogey, and none for double-bogey or worse.

The total points earned at the end of the round will be deducted from the original handicap of 36 to determine the player’s handicap for the round.

Also supporting the event are Granstar Motors, Asiana Ship Management Inc., Forbidden Golf Club, ARL Maritime Services Inc., Rhine Marketing, Education and Training Family, Philippine Army, and Santa Isabel Child Development Center.

Those interested to join can contact Arsenio Pelicano at 0920-9090513 or Joyce Cubos at 0922-8712341.

Tee off time will be from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The tournament fee already covers the green fee, caddie fee, snacks, dinner, and raffles during the award rites to be held at the MIGC clubhouse.

The categories to be contested will be classes A, B, C, and ladies with the champion and runner-up to receive prizes.

Maj. Jeffrey Jake Gallenero of the organizing committee told The Freeman that there will also be special prizes for nearest the pin, longest putt, longest drive and most accurate drive on specific holes.

Special awards will also be given for the most bidies, most pars, and most bogeys aside from an eagle award.—NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
