CEBU, Philippines - First Family Appliance ’87/94 escaped with a 44-42 victory over Cebu Diamond Auto Parts 2000 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
The two protagonists fought heaven and earth the entire game, but Class ’87/94 proved steadier and tough down the final stretch.
Henrich Chua had 17 points, while Wellington Yu added 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks as Class ’87/94 improved its win-loss record to 7-5.
Pimco Pimentel and Boltron each had 11 points, while Lorenz Azarraga added 10 markers, 10 rebounds and three assists for Class ’87/94, which fell to 3-11.
In the other game, Young Builders ’91 evened its win-loss mark to 7-7 after clobbering JRJ Enterprises/Semers 2007, 53-40.
Class ’91 was ahead by just a hairline after three quarters, 44-43, but dumped Class 2007 in the closing minutes of the contest, 19-7, to come up with a 13-point romp.
Juan Borromeo, Jr. paced Class ’91 with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists, while Tommy Yu netted 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals for Class ’91.
Juan Carlo Espada was the lone double-digit scorer with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals as Class 2007 slipped to 6-7.
