Host Argao stays undeafeted in Mayor Edsel Galeos Cup hoopfest

-

CEBU, Philippines – Host Argao tamed Carcar, 83-73, to remain unbeaten in the inter-town division of the Mayor Edsel Galeos Cup 2009 basketball tournament at the Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Sports and Cultural Center in Argao, Cebu.

Neither team refused to give in until Argao gained momentum in the final stretch behind the four straight triples of James Bonachita that sparked a 31-19 rally.

Bonachita finished with 26 points, while Mike Escalante added 20 points as Argao tightened its grip of the overall lead with a clean 5-0 slate. Adrian Tapere and Janjan Cahilig banged in 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

Carcar, which dropped to 1-1, was led by the tandem of Cris Carretas and TJ Napolitano with 38 points combined.

In the inter-zonal category, Poblacion-D lost a big led but recovered in time to escape with a 70-68 victory over Poblacion A, while the Lovers Hill nailed its first win in two games by scoring a lopsided 103-63 win over the Stone Horse.
