CEBU, Philippines – Young Builders ’91 scored a 61-47 demolition of First ACY Shipping 2006 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Trailing by a hairline at the end of the first period, 8-9, Class ’91 pounded Class 2006 in the next two quarters with finesse, 35-22, to mount a dozen-point lead, 43-31, heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
From there onwards, Class ’96 dictated the tempo of the match on the way to notch its sixth win against the same number of defeats.
Juan Borromeo, Jr. topped Class ’96 with 23 points on top of 15 rebounds and three assists. Chester Benedict Go added 10 points, three assists and two steals.
Ralph Victor Yap had 15 points, while Nolsie John Cisneros banged in 14 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists for Class 2006, which slumped to 1-9.
In the other game, JRJ Enterprises 2007 frolicked all game long to clobber Gregoria’s Curtains and Trim Haus ’89/93, 82-57.
From a sizzling 22-11 starts, Class 2007 kept pounding on the hapless Class ’89/93 the rest of the way to come up with a 25-point blowout.
Raymark Ryan Ong finished with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Juan Carlo Espada chipped in 19 markers on top of a season-high 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals as Class 2007 improved to 5-6.
Edwin Ong was the lone double-digit scorer with 19 points and 11 rebounds for Class ’89/93, which slipped to 1-11, by far the league’s worst record this season.
