Motocross goes back to San Remigio today

CEBU, Philippines - Motocross teams all over Cebu and a couple of visiting teams from the other cities in Visayas and Mindanao returns to the “birth place” of the MS Motocross Series today with the staging of the 11th Ornopia Cup in Calambua, San Remigio.

The Ornopia Cup debuted in San Remigio in the mid 1990’s as a side event of the town’s annual fiesta.

The Ornopia Family, despite the economic crunch and the slow development of motocross racing in Cebu and in the Philippines, however, continued to promote the sport in San Remigio.

From being a side show, the Ornopia Cup morphed into a series currently known as the MS Motosuit Motocross Series. MS Motosuit is a Cebu-based company manufacturing quality seat covers for motorcycles and cars owned by Lou Ornopia.

With the help of Ornopia, different LGU’s and private sponsors, the series has become the premier motorcycle competition in Cebu for the past four years.

The 11th Ornopia Cup, on the other hand, serves as the fourth leg of this year’s series presented by Castrol Philippines.

Just how tough is the series? No single rider, in any class, has ruled the first three legs. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
