Cebuanos dominate Dumaguete netfest

-

The talented Cebuano netters, most of them mainstays of the SANCASE Developmental Training Pool spearheaded by Rev. Fr. Rey Talaugon, grabbed almost all the titles at stake in the Dumaguete City leg of the 2009 Head Penn Age-Group Tennis Competition at the Praxavilla tennis courts.

Overall, they hauled six titles and two runner-up finishes. Only in the boys 12-under division Cebu has no finalist.

The multi-titled Bernardine "Niño" Siso bannered the cast of triumphant Cebuano squad with two championship crowns in the boys 16 and 18 categories, incidentally against the same opponent in Paulo Cansino with the scores of 6-4, 7-5 and 7-5, 7-5.

The other decorated Siso siblings Sallymae and Sallydine also made their mother Sally, who cheered them up to no end at the sidelines, proud.

Sallymae completed a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Juvilyn Narquin to bag the girls 16 golds. Perhaps already exhausted, she bowed to her older sister Sallydine in the girls 18, 4-6, 4-6.

Hannah Grace Espinosa, for her part, bagged a champion's trophy after edging out Barquin, 6-2, 6-1.

Jan Godfrey Seno also made sure he won't go home empty-handed as he battered Bernd Haft, 6-2, 6-1 to dominate the unisex 10-under class.

Fritz Satera though failed to live up to expectations as he just settled for a runner-up finish along with Beverly Olive Enriquez.

Satera gave all his best only to fall prey to Paulo Baran at 6-2, 0-6, 7-10, in the boys 14 category, while Enriquez wound up with a silver in the girls 12-under after bowing to Marie Ladera, 2-6, 4-6. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
