No Care Racing shinesin autocross tourney
CEBU, Philippines - They call their team No Care Racing, but they showed to their rivals that they truly care on winning.
The exuberant No Care drivers swiftly made an impact in their debut as a team in the local racing circuit by grabbing a handful of titles and several runner-up finishes in the second leg of the Castrol Edge-backed 2009 Philippine Autocross Championship series last Saturday at a specialized racetrack situated at the back of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue reclamation area.
At the helm of NCR’s triumphant campaign was Jong King, who upstaged the heavily-favored David G. Lim of the decorated DGL Racing to clinch the overall championship with the fastest time of 31.6 seconds.
“It really came as a big surprise because I did not expect to win the overall title. What’s in my mind was to join the race and have fun,” said King in a get-together with NCR drivers yesterday at Hukad sa Golden Cowrie in The Terraces.
King also drove his 1996 Toyota Subaru Impreza STi to a pair of crowning glory in the Open C category and in the all-Wheel drive. He finished second in the Novice Modified C and landed third in the Experience Modified C.
Dennis Corro, on the other hand, scored back-to-back victories by topping the Old School class with his 1983 Toyota Corolla. He also ruled the same event during the other week’s Y101 Autocross at the Kartzone racing circuit.
Philip Khan “Lik-Lik” A. Lim hauled two first runner-up trophies in the Novice Modified B and Open with his Toyota Starlet GT Turbo and another two second runner-up honors in the Automatic Class and Novice Stock C with his Honda Jazz.
Bobby Pangilinan steered his MR-2 Toyota to a double first runner-up finish in the Sports Car and Rear Drive category and a second runner-up in the Papa Joe Special division.
Team NCR founder Alan “Big Al” G. Choachuy, riding on his Mitsubishi Eclipse, motored to second place in the all-Sports Car category. He had another podium finish for winding up third in the Automatic category.
Eric Canama added feather on NRC’s cap by taking the first runner-up honors in the Novice Stock C and placing third in the Papa Joe’s class with his 1996 Nissan Altima.
The other members of the Dewfoam-sponsored No Care Racing Team are Richard Eric Khe, Norris See, and Richard Anthony Khe. — EBV (THE FREEMAN)
