Castrol '96 thrashes Class 2000 by 41 points in CECABA hoop

CEBU, Philippines - Roadstar/Castrol '96 recorded what is by far the most lopsided win in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup via a 41-point massacre of Cebu Diamond Auto Parts 2000, 85-41, on Friday night at the CEC gym.

From a sizzling 26-12 start, Class '96 further mauled the hapless Class 2000 in the next two quarters, 35-19, to mount a commanding 30-point lead, 61-31, heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest. From there onwards, there was already no doubt as to who would emerge the victor.

All 11 players fielded in by Class '96 hit the scoring chart. Dreyfuss Ang had 12 points, three assists and two steals, Franklin Neil Ong contributed 11 markers and four assists, while Arniel Frank Pelaez finished with 10 points and five rebounds as the Castrol-backed squad notched its seventh win against a solitary defeat.

Boltron had 15 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Lorenz Azarraga added 12 points and seven rebounds for Class 2000, which fell to 3-6.

In the other game, JRJ Enterprises/Semers 2007 relied on a strong fourth-quarter showing to escape with a 50-48 victory over The First Family Appliance '87/94.

Class 2007 trailed by six after the third period, 30-36, but upstaged Class '87/94 in the windup, 20-12, to steal the win, its third in seven starts.

Juan Carlo Espada had 16 points, five steals, four assists and three rebounds, while Raymark Ryan Ong added 10 points as Class 2007 improved to 3-4.

Henrich Chua fired 17 points on top of three assists and two rebounds, while Bronson Peña dished out 11 points for Class '87/94, which slipped to 3-5.
