-

CEBU, Philippines - Chester Cokaliong pumped in 21 of his season-high tying 39 points in the final period and Joel Chan submitted a triple-double as Pilipinas Shell ‘78/‘85 humiliated First ACY Shipping 2006, 108-72, for its fourth win in as many starts in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Cokaliong, who knocked in eight triples, also had three assists and one block, while Chan had 12 points, 21 rebounds and 14 assists in a virtuoso performance that helped catapult Class ‘78/‘85 to its best ever 4-0 start in the league.

From a 25-17 start, Class ‘78/‘85 maintained as much as 20 points lead on several occasions including at 57-37 at halftime.

The best Class 2006 could muster was to trim the deficit down to 14 points at the end of the third period, 60-74, as Cokaliong, who shot to fame for his penchant in 3-point sniping, played like a man possessed in the windup where he charted 21 points spiked with five triples to seal the Shell-backed squad’s 36-point blowout.

Wilson Yu netted 17 points, eight rebounds, and two asists, Edwin Kaw contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists for Class ‘78/‘85, while Wilty Yap added 11 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals in a commendable show of team effort.

Class ‘91 trailed by two at the end of the first period, 12-14, but rallied back in the second canto to grab the lead for good at halftime, 28-24. Class ‘91 outscored Class ‘89/‘93 in the third quarter, 13-8, and then launched its final wave of attack, 19-10, to complete the 18-point rout.
