CEBU, Philippines - Dewfoam ’88 motored to its second straight win after an opening day setback in style, pulling off a 36-34 upset over two-time champion Roadstar/Castrol ’96 in a low-scoring match of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 11th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Class ’88 raced to a 10-6 start, but Class ’96 countered with an 8-3 run in the second period to take a hairline edge at the intermission, 14-13.
The two teams figured in an air-tight battle from there onwards, but Class ’88 fought steadier in the final stretch to hang on to a two-point victory.
Gregorio Aguilar was the lone double-digit scorer of the game with 13 points as Class ’88 improved its win-loss record to 2-1. Team captain Rey Kenneth Ng added six markers. Shaun Christopher Wang was the highest scorer for Class ’96 with eight.
