DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Is the Philippine Airlines Interclub heading back to Cebu next year?
It doesn’t seem so, but Mactan Island Golf Club is set to bid today for the solo hosting of the twin events next year. Retired General Rodante Joya, general manager of MIGC, told The Freeman that he will bid to host.
He said that he hopes the organizers would consider holding a longer tournament since the number of participants would require at least two golf clubs in one locality as hosts.
The team captains will meet today at the Apo Golf Club here to decide on next year’s host and to finalize the roster of teams for this year’s event co-hosted by Rancho Palos Verdes.
One organizer said that the entry fee of the teams, which is P25,000 will go to the host clubs. There are a total of around 150 teams for the seniors (55 years old and above) and the men’s regular event.
Joya said, “we will do what we can for Cebu and I hope the organizers would agree to add a few more days to the event if there is only one club as host.”
Mactan won the title of the Sportswriters Division in the just-concluded seniors tournament.
The MIGC men’s team will be joining those from Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, Cebu Country Club and Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu in the battle for supremacy in the next four days.
Last year, Alta Vista was second in the Sportswriters class while Cebu Country Club was third in the Founders Division.
AVGCC, which is backed by Julie’s Bakeshop, will be manned by Victor Gocela, Gio Gandiongco, Edsel Tan, Enrico solon, Dennis Canoy, Emir Abutazil, Wendell Yap, Kim Kwang Seok, and Gabriel Yap, Jr.
CCC will be led by Montito Garcia, who will be joined by Carl Almario, Jovi Neri, Marko Sarmiento, Mark Dy, Eric Deen, Chuckie Hong, Kiyo Takahashi, Joseph Stevens, and Bayani Garcia.
Club Filipino will be led by Boboy Durano, who will be joined by Alvin Alazas, Jiji Gullas, Razy Razon, Ed Franco, Edwardson Chiu, Raymond Garcia, Evans Tumaliwan, Victor Yuvallos, and Jae Kim Eun.
The classifications of the teams will also be known in today’s team captains’ meeting. -THE FREEMAN
