Vernel routs Cals in BRBA caging

CEBU, Philippines – The Danny Duran-led Vernel squad defeated the Cals of Larry Vestil, 98-82, while Sitio Colveta won by default over Bucks at the end of the first round of elimination in the Better-Run Basketball Association (BRBA) at the Ma. Gochan Sports Complex in Brgy. Mambaling, this city.

Vernel was ahead by just a hairline, 17-16 , at the end of the first period, but Burt Tabalin and Jimmy Carcueva suddenly caught fire to pad their lead to double digits at halftime, 46-35.

Mon Ceballos and defensive gem Bay Villarta, Vic Gador and Dodong Lopez joined the scoring fray to help preserve Vernel’s win.

Ceballos had 17 points for Vernel followed by Villarta with 16 as they improved their win-loss record to 4-1 in a tie with Colveta.

The Cavs, who slipped to 2-3, were led by Ruel Sestoso with 18 points and Dodong Lim with 17 markers.

In the other game, the Conor Express of coach Dodong Cuarto whipped the Left-Over, 94-76, behind the one-two punch of Junrey Ledesma and Dave Unabia who connived for 43 points.

Dodong Millior paced Left-Over with 20 points, while ata Salasa and Vincent Cañete combined for 24 points in a losing cause.
