Golf addiction and cheerleading
Cebu - There is a need for a concerted effort among the various stake holders if we want to push Cebu as a venue for sporting competitions.
Charles Lim of Selhracho and conference director of the Sports Tourism Forum set next month at the Teatro Casino inside Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino emphasized this during yesterday’s press conference at Gustavian.
The forum set on February 17 is expected to bring together representatives from various local government units, sports associations, event organizers and those from the hospitality and tourism sector.
I have always been proud of Cebu’s ability to host events and I hope that this forum shall be able to highlight that further.

The Mactan Amateur Open Golf Tournament tees off today with Cebu’s top players set to see action in a two-day tournament billed as the final tune-up for the Philippine Airlines Interclub.
Unfortunately I’d be out of town today and would not be able to catch the action, but I’m scheduled to return late tomorrow just in time for the awards ceremony.

Since we’re in the subject of golf, which is an addiction to most who play the game (you see them taking swings even if they’re not holding a club or exchanging golf jokes) here’s a piece from the Amazing But True Golf Facts about rock star Alice Cooper.
Cooper said that he cleaned himself up from other addictions and switched to golf and actually became quite good at it.
He said that he quit drinking in the early 1980s and played 36 holes a day and hit 600 balls at the range. His handicap went down from 36 to 9 in a flash.
I have friends who started drinking when they played golf. The reason is that they have to nurse their heartaches after a round.

Do you know that cheerleading is considered a contact sport?
I came across this article over www.cnnsi.com yesterday where a Wisconsin court ruled that participants cannot be sued for injuries caused to others since high school cheerleading is a contact sport.
This came after a former cheerleader sued a teammate who failed to stop her fall while she was performing a stunt. She was also barred from suing her school district.
I know many who’d be very eager to take part in this contact sport to be with the cheerleaders. Hehehe…
