CEBU – The MLS stalwarts greeted the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (CIIB) an unpleasant new year by handing the latter its first loss in four games, 80-71, in the resumption of the Labangon Youth Association (LAYA) 1st Ritchie Osmeña Cup the other day at the Labangon Sports Complex.
Nelson Luague ignited the final assault of MLS by scoring 26 points, while Bern Ylanan and Marlon Siaotong joined in the scoring parade by cashing in 19 and 18 markers, respectively. Ylanan, younger brother of CIIB chief Police Supt. George Ylanan scored most of his points also in the final period.
MLS, thus, improved its win-loss record to 3-2 although CIIB remained on top of the heap with a 3-1 slate.

Viking Rollon and Jerome Hisoler had 40 points combined for LAYA Gold, but their efforts went for naught as they tailspun to their fourth straight defeat in as many games.
