13 teams to join Shakey's V-League in Cebu

-

CEBU – It's all systems go for the Cebu leg of the 4th Shakey's V-League on January 10 at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gym.

From only five entries last year, a record 13 teams have confirmed their participation this time, according to event coordinator Jordan Paca.

"We had fewer participants last year because it was held during summer. That’s why the Shakey's V-League organizers decided to move it to January to accommodate more participants especially those coming from the public schools," said Paca.

Aside from Cebu and Manila, Shakey's V-League extended its grassroots program to Bacolod , Iloilo and Tacloban with hopes of discovering potential talents and develop them to become future members of the national team.

The Cebu leg, meanwhile, will be a battle of rising stars in the local volleyball arena.

First on the list is Jackelyn Crisostomo of the 2008 Milo Olympics champion team Abellana National School , who also played for Badian in the 4th Governor Gwen Garcia University Volleyball (GUV) Cup.

Completing the 13 contending squads are University of San Carlos , University of Cebu , St. Theresa's College, Asian Learning College , Liloan National High School , Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School , Don Gerardo National High School , St. Joseph's Academy, Camp Lapu-Lapu National High School, Bonbon National High School and defending champion USPF.

Paca said they are still accepting entries, but only until today. For further details, one may call/text Paca at 0905-2570833.

The champion in the tournament will earn a ticket to the Shakey's V-League National Championships on April 14-18 in Bacolod City. – Marigold P. Lebumfacil (THE FREEMAN)
