All set for 1st Mabilog memorial swimfest

CEBU – All is set for the 1st Osky Mabilog Memorial Cup National Age Group Swimming Competition on February 21-22 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The event honors the late Oscar Mabilog, one of the founders of Cebu Blue Marlin Swimming Club, and the man behind the Swim Against Drug, once a project of the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP).

Mabilog’s passion for the sport and his dedicated effort to take the youth away from menace of drugs and substance abuse inspired the current members of the Blue Marlins Swimming Club to revive his memory through this swimming competition.

The competition will feature seven age group levels – boys and girls 18 above, 15-17, 13-14, 11-12, 9-10, 7-8 and U-6. The Cebu City government, in cooperation with the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), is the backing the tournament.

“We envision this project to be an annual event in order to promote and propagate the values of good sportsmanship, friendship, and solidarity,” says Cebu Blue Marlins’ president Lynn Navarro.
