CEBU – The Cebuano pedal-pushers hope to duplicate their winning performance as they return to Hilongos, Leyte today to participate in the Governor Petilla Invitational Road Race.
The competition is divided into three classes —A, B and the executives.
The events include a sprint and an individual road race.
The sprint covers 400 meters in all classes, while the road race covers a total of 100 kilometers in class A, 84K in class B and 60K in the executives.
Aside from medals, a total of P27,000 in cash prizes are at stake for the winners of the event sponsored by Carmen Cari, &Dot Sports, Redem Enterprises, Cebu Titans Surplus, Engr. Ronnil Carillo, Anton Tracil, Roble Shipping, Nature’s Spring, and Lito Bispera.
Earlier, the Cebuano bets dominated the mountainbike action also organized by Hilongos Cycling One.
The 200m sprint for under-23 riders saw a 1-2-3 finish for Cebuanos Marjun Villarosa, Randy Carbonera and Janno Canasa. The 30-above class had Celito Suarez winning the top spot over Jelly Sarate.
Randy Carbonera got what he missed in the sprint by ruling the criterium over Ruben Basañez. Another Cebuano Earl Cadampog placed third.
The 30-kilometer cross-country contest also had Cebuanos Judmar Villarosa, Jaybop Pagnanawon, Roy Carbonera and Janno Canasa composing Team Salem winning the championship over Hindang’s squad. Hilongos Cycling One copped the third place honors. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
