Gonzalez tops Seniors golfest

CEBU – Sergio ‘Boy’ Gonzalez bagged the overall honors in last week’s 2008 Senior Golfers Christmas Fellowship Tournament played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Gonzalez carded a gross score of two-over par 73 strokes on nines of 36 and 37 to win the title of the 18-hole event.

The champion in the Young Seniors class was Manuel Go of AVGCC with a net score of 61 followed by teammate Alex Ngo, who made a net score of 63 and won in the countback over Pamplona Plantation’s Celestino Rodriguez, who settled for the 2nd runner-up honors.

In the Mature Seniors class, Jack Lee led a sweep by the host club as he scored a net 63. Second place went to Ramon Escario with a net 65 after he edged Esteban Saldua in the countback.

Rod Señido completed a sweep for Alta Vista of all the titles as he ruled the Super Seniors class with a net score of 64. Second place went to Lorenzo Ocheda of Club Filipino with a net score of 65 while Mactan’s Eusebio Alquizalas was third with a net score of 66.

The guest division title went to Alta Vista’s Luis Cupin with a net score of 71 while runner-up honors went to Cesar Sobrevega of Mactan with a net score of 76.

Special prizes for nearest the pin went to Felix Villanueva (8 feet and 7 inches) on hole number 2, Manuel Go (5 inches) hole No. 6, Vicente Go (3 feet 4 inches) hole No. 8, and Jonathan Yu (11 inches) hole No. 13. All of them are from AVGCC.

Ed Misa of Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club got a special prize for scoring an eagle on the par-4 hole No. 3 where he knocked in his second shot using a pitching wedge from 76 yards.

Jonathan Yu also had an eagle on the downhill par-4 14th as he knocked in his second shot using a chipper from 50 yards.—NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
