CEBU – Jusabelle Brillo of back-to-back champion Lapu-Lapu emerged as the City Cluster MVP in the 4th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup For Women, which ended last Saturday at the Cebu International Convention Center.
It was her third MVP trophy in the province-wide tournament organized by the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA).
On top of her excellent spiking skills, Brillo showed great team leadership that made her worthy of the accolade. The University of the Visayas (UV) standout was hobbled by a recurring knee injury during the semis and the finals, but displayed big fighting heart to carry her team to their second straight championship and third overall in four GUV Cup editions.
More to that, Brillo maintains low-profile persona and even if she is now an RP Team member, she kept her feet on the ground.
Brillo is simply brilliant.
She may look a bit awkward with the way she moves, but nobody else can perform what she does in the playing court. She uses her mind really well and can deliver whatever is asked of her to do.
Brillo is such a commendable team player that if she has her way to select the Mythical Team, she will pick all her deserving teammates.
But it’s not for her to decide.
Brillo was joined into the elite Mythical Team by teammates Reinacel Berdon (best server) and Lyn-Lyn Lequigan (best blocker), and Talisay City’s Florian Gutierrez (best attacker), Marie Celeste Rosillo (best libero), Harriette Abastillas (best setter).
On the other hand, Cherry Petalcurin, who was among the prominent figures as Catmon dethroned Liloan to clinch the Municipal Cluster title, bagged the MVP plum in her division.
Two other Catmon players Methosheena Bate and Melanie Silvestre snatched the best attacker and best setter commendations, respectively. The other individual awardees in the Municipal Cluster were Badian’s Jennifer Resto, Liloan’s Montecalvo, and Minglanilla’s Emalie Basalo. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
