My Christmas wish list

ALLEZ - Jose Vicente Araneta -

Here’s my top ten cycling wish this Christmas:

1. Watch the Giro dItalia

It would be the ultimate high to see Lance Armstrong race in Italy. Italy is the best cycling destination in the world and to experience Lance trying to win the Guiro for the first time makes this top of my list.

2. Watch the Tour de France

The reason why the Tour is number two is that there is still a probability that Lance wouldn’t ride the race. There’s too much bad vibes between Armstrong and the Tour. While the Tour has acknowledged that Armstrong can join the race and the latter saying that he will join the race, that peace is still uneasy between the two parties. A lot of things can still happen in seven months so things could still implode.

3. Climb Baguio this summer

After missing the 2-day ride from Cagayan top Davao last month with the Cebu Cycling guys, I told myself that I have to go to Baguio this year with the same group. I’ve never been to the City of Pines and visiting the place by bicycle would be a dream come true!

4. Own a Parlee frameset

Just a recurring wet dream of mine. See www.parleecycles.com for 6600 reasons why.

5. Use tubular tires in all races

Tubular tires, which is mistaken called as tubeless, are what the pros use. The quality of the ride is exceptional, to say the least. It is also fast and quick. The reason why its not used by mortals on daily rides is that is needs somebody with exceptional skill and patience to fix a flat. But with a resident tire doctor in the person of Isias Camilo available, it would be a mortal sin not to use tubulars.

6. Lose 10 kgs in the next few months.

Trying to lose even a few pounds makes me feel Sisyphus condemned to repeat forever the same meaningless task of pushing a rock up a mountain, only to see it roll down again. Yeah, you get the point.

7. Balance of life

This is not about balance on the bicycle but achieving balance between family, work and cycling. Pretty hard to do but vey doable.

8. Race in the Executive circuit in Manila

Professional bicycle racing in the Philippines is comatose these days. But executive racing is not only thriving but is growing in unprecedented heights. I want to be a part of it, even for one leg.

9. Growth of the sport

Cebu has a rich cycling tradition. From the Delica’s to the Pagnanawon’s, Cebu has always been a national cycling superpower, but not anymore. I think that there is lots of talent around, its just that the infrastructure for the talent is nowhere to be seen.

10. Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All Men.

Merry Christmas to all!!!
