CEBU - A total of 13 teams will be seeing action in the inaugural staging of the Community Children’s Games beginning this Monday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
These are Pit-os, Talamban, Sambag 2, Pasil, Mambaling, Apas, Kalubihan, Mabolo, Suba, Hipodromo, Tinago, Task Force and Guadalupe.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-7 coordinator Danny Villadolid, on behalf of event organizer PSC Commissioner Fr. Vicente “Vic” L. Uy, SVD, said the number of entries has increased because not all teams will be able to field in players for all the events.
To level the playing field, the organizing body has decided to accommodate three more squads.
Among the events to be contested are athletics, table tennis, chess, volleyball, badminton and basketball.
Badminton and table tennis will have singles and team competition. Chess will also be a team event in both boys and girls divisions, while athletics will feature five events:100m, 200m, and 400m run, long jump and high jump.
Meanwhile, the PSC expresses its deep gratitude to the tournament managers and the rest of the officiating officials for their unselfish and dedicated support to the two-day tilt, which is patterned after that of the International Children’s Games.
The tournament managers include Jessica Jawad-Honoridez (table tennis), Roger Abella (chess), Lerma Binarao (badminton), Babeth Erana (athletics), Dolores Opoc (volleyball), and Danny Villagracia (basketball).
Before the games proper, all the coaches, team representatives, tournament managers and organizers will have a solidarity meeting tomorrow at 8 am at the CCSC. —Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
