CEBU - Defending all-municipality champion Liloan and Sogod pulled two more victories each to share the lead in Bracket A of the 4th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup For Women qualifying round yesterday at the Cebu International Convention Center.
After dodging the upset axe from Minglanilla, Liloan proceeded with a 25-12, 25-15 dumping of Boljoon.
The Sogod belles, on the other hand, outsmarted Cluster 4 champion Daanbantayan, 25-18, 26-24, before surviving a three-set thriller against Tuburan, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17.
The other Bracket A match saw Daanbantayan bouncing back with a 29-27, 25-18 triumph over Minglanilla.
Minglanilla and Tuburan hope to score their first win as they clash against each other in today’s third playdate.
In Bracket B, Catmon and Santa Fe are also on top of the heap with identical 2-0 win-loss cards.
Catmon collected its second win at the expense of Badian,25-10, 25-14, while Sante Fe pulled off a thrilling third set victory over Compostela, 25-23, 23-25,2 5-23 before taking away an easy 25-19, 25-5 win against Dalaguete.
Dalaguete is still winless in two games, while Badian and Compostela have a loss each.
Today’s games in Bracket A pit Boljoon versus Sogod, Minglanilla opposite Tuburan, Sogod against Liloan and Tuburan versus Daanbantayan.
In Bracket B, Badian goes up against Compostela as Dalaguete and Catmon tackle Balamban and Compostela, respectively.
The top two squads in each bracket of this Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA)-organized event will advance into the semifinal round along with the penultimate round of the city cluster on December 19.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
