Talisay running event
CEBU - If you pass the South Coastal Road early mornings, you’ll see so many runners pounding the concrete road. The new road surely has given the running buffs in Talisay City a place to sweat it out early mornings without having to worry about falling into potholes.
I guess the opening of this road has also paved the way for many Talisaynons and those from nearby areas like people from my town of Minglanilla.
On December 28, the runners, who you regularly see at the South Coastal Road, as well as other enthusiasts, would be taking part in the 1st Talisay Run.
Information about this event was relayed to me by my good friend Simoun Canton, Jr. or simply Jun Canton of PAL, who is himself a running buff.
The event is organized by the Kabangis Runners Club of Talisay City headed by Jun’s brother Ed Canton and is held in cooperation with the Talisay City Sports Commission headed by Mr. Three-pointer himself, Councilor Rodi Cabigas.
There will be competitions for 3K, 5K, and 10K where trophies and medals are up for grabs in the 5K and 10K classes.
Registration fee for the event is P150, which entitles the participant to a singlet and a snack pack. Those interested to join can register at the Philippine Sports Commission office at the grandstand of the Cebu City Sports Center or at the Talisay Sports Commission office.
Organizers are making it easier for participants as a buss will shuttle the participants from Cebu City Sports Center at 5 a.m. on race day.
This surely is a good way to shed off those extra pounds from eating all the good stuff in the Christmas season.

Jesse Bernad, a fellow UP alumnus, sent me a text message about the plans of a get-together for UPians at the Fastball Batting Cages inside the Aboitiz Sports Field in the Mandaue Reclamation Area.
Jesse was a star athlete back in high school and college in our school. Although he was also a top basketball player, it was in softball where he was most passionate.
It came as no surprise to me when he told me about his business, which is now going full swing.
There is no date yet, but I’m sure our fellow UP alumni, who played softball back in high school and college, would love to hit a few balls.
In fact, Jay Montecillo, who is from Jesse’s high school class and now home for a Christmas vacation, told me the other day he’d love to be there with other UPians.
As this is our school’s centennial year, why don’t we really do it and make it a habit to get together once a week and relive those days.
This will also be a good venue for us in the alumni board of UP High School to give you updates about what’s happening. Updates like the postponement of the car raffle draw to July 2009 and not January 30, 2009 as I earlier announced.
We can all help our alma mater and enjoy playing softball or baseball at the Fastball Batting Cages. Jesse whispered to me that he’d give us a special rate hehehe.

MILESTONE: I’d like to wish a very good friend and the star athlete of our high school class, Kerrwin Ouano Sanchez, a very happy birthday today.
Kerrwin is one of the UP High alumni, who is also very eager to try the fun at the Fastball Batting Cages.
More power, Pre! (THE FREEMAN)
