Siso scores 'twin kill' in Malaysia tennis

CEBU – Sally Mae Siso scored a twin kill in her last Langkawi Age-Group Tennis Championships appearance in Complex Sukan in Langkawi, Malaysia the other night.

The University of San Carlos-South Campus tennis standout won both her singles and doubles championship matches in the girls U-14 division to save Team Philippines from a medal shutout.

Siso dumped Korean Ra Suyeon 6-2, 6-1 in a rain-delayed singles final of the girls U-14 division.

Later, Siso partnered with Amore de Villier, came from behind to beat Koreans Suyeon and Park Kyungohk 7-5 for the doubles tiara in the same category.

The Korean pair was leading 5-1 when rains fell forcing the organizers to cut short the doubles final to straight six. The respite gave Siso and her partner ample time to rest and came back strong to take the crown from the dejected Korean pair who wept after losing the match.

The double-decker assured the Dunlop and Atan Guardo-sponsored Siso undefeated status in four years of campaign in the Malaysia age-group tennis circuit, a record that would be a hard to beat by upcoming age groupers.

From Langkawi, Siso will lead the five-member RP team to the Perlis International Age-Group Competition, still in Malaysia, that starts today. – THE FREEMAN
