MILTSCI bets rule Lapu-Lapu Fiesta tennis

-

CEBU - Just like the way they started their campaign for supremacy, the Mactan Island Lawn Tennis Sports Club, Inc. (MILTSCI) netters finished the 2008 Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta Tennis Tournament billed as "Mayor Arturo ‘Boy’ Radaza Cup" on a stellar note over the weekend at the city's tennis courts.

The MILTSCI mainstays carted away four of the six championship trophies available in the month-long tilt, which served among the major highlights of the recent fiesta celebration of Lapu-Lapu City in honor of its beloved patroness Virgen de la Regla (Virgin of the Rule).

Rommel Pinote and Titing Augusto spotlighted MILTSCI's glorious moments by fending off Mike Odi and Raymund Sambas, 8-5, to rule the C Plus category.

Cindi Chan, better half of event organizer Ahong Chan, and partner Edna Base joined Pinote and Augosto in spraying the victory champagne after they vanquished early title favorite Cecille Rizon and Marlyn Cortes of Cecille's TC, 8-6, to reign supreme in the Ladies division.

In the age-group bracket, MILTSCI bets also shone brightly. Josha Kinaadman handily beat Sharalyn Tuñacao, 8-1, to clinch the 12 years old and under title, while Paul Abendan mangled Jennifer Jaca of Mactan Air Base TC via the same verdict to romp off with the 16-Under crown.

Boy Malingin and Andy Escoton of Cecille's TC have had their fair share of the limelight after edging out comrades Mario Rizon and Gil Montesclaros, 8-6, to lord it over in the Century Old class. Ditto with Nanding Sagaral and Val Rayas of General Milling Corp. (GMC), who escaped with a razor-thin 8-7 victory over Bro. Trangia and Ruel Gelig of Marigondon TC to clinch the C Minus plum.

Aside from trophies, the different category champions pocketed P3,000 each, while the second placers took home P2,000.

Event chairman and city councilor Junard "Ahong" Chan was on hand to award the prizes to the outstanding performers assisted by tournament director Junjun Clarito. Additional rewards were given away to the winners such as TV racks, silver ware sets and rice cookers among others courtesy of Cecille's Enterprises through its proprietor Mario Rizon.

The members of the working committee who also contributed to the success of the event include Medjok Paden, PJ Vergara, Gil Vilo, Manjo Calo-oy, and Jun Bungot. — EBV (THE FREEMAN)
