Wee, Tirol lead charity golf winners
CEBU - Antonio ‘Tony’ Wee, Jr. and Edito ‘Nonoy’ Tirol led the winners of the 8th Charity Fun Golf Tournament played last Friday at the Cebu Country Club.
Wee bagged the lowest net title with his eight-under-par 64 off a gross 83 while Tirol carded two-over-par 74 to bag the lowest gross honors.
The tournament drew a total of 144 players, which is the biggest-ever since it was first held in 2001. The Friends Forever for Charity Foundation Inc., which is the prime mover of the tournament, was also able to give away a total of P1.2 million during the awards night to various charitable institutions.
The class A title went to Evans Tumaliwan with a net score of 67 off a gross 76. First runner-up was Jufil Sato with a net score of 68 while Kim Kwang Seok was second runner-up with a net score of 69.
Felix Villanueva topped class B with his net score of 65 strokes. First runner-up via the countback was Eddie Yap with a net score of 66. Jude Cimafranca, who also scored 66, settled for the second runner-up honors.
The class C title went to Benson Chua with a net score of 68 winning it via the countback over Jose Abellana, who settled for the first runner-up honors. Second runner-up, also via countback, was Masao Koike, who edge Jojo Ong. Both scored net 69.
Prizes were also given to four players, who were nearest the pin on the par-3 holes. Edgar Lao left 65 inches for a birdie attempt on hole number 3, Felix Villanueva’s tee shot landed 97 inches from the pin on the 5th, Tessa Ozoa left 8 feet and 8 inches for a birdie try on the 13th, and Prudgie Gesta’s tee shot on the 15th landed 10 feet and eight inches from the hole.
The biggest beneficiaries of the tournament were the Tzu Chi Foundation, Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation, Missionaries of Charity, the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children, and The Freeman Foundation. (THE FREEMAN)
