CEBU - Mythical Five members Marciel Cadungog and Chissar Llegunas hit a barrage of shots in the final half as the F. Llamas Youth Association (FYA) Warriors walloped Golden Eye, 92-72, in the rubbermatch of their best-of-three finals to snatch the championship of the 1st Coach Rady Cup basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
From a 40-42 deficit at halftime, the Warriors used a 16-6 rally to turn the tide of the match in their favor the rest of the way. The Warriors just enjoyed a three-point edge at the end of the third period, 60-57, but Cadungog and Llegunas presided over a searing endgame attack, 32-15, that staggered Golden Eye at the final buzzer.
Despite the setback, Golden Eye still has something to brag about as it owned both the MVP and Sportsmanship awards. Dominic Enriquez, a former UC Junior Webmaster, walked away with the MVP trohpy, while Mark Arias pocketed the Sportsmanship award.
The other member of the Mythical Team was Adrian Loiuse Laborte of third placer Viking Haulers.
Event sponsor Rady Abarintos was on hand to award the trophies, medals, certificates and cash prizes to the winners assisted by tournament chairman Restituto “Bugoy” Atillo and barangay secretary Jojo Chavez representing Punta Princesa Brgy. Capt. Rolly Diorico.
Meanwhile, the FYA Selection led by former USJ-R Jaguar Giovanni Canceko defeated the Karen Rick de la Cerna-led Labangon Youth Association (LAYA), 85-81. Canceko, playing for the Lakers, was also a member of the Mythical Team. (GGM) (THE FREEMAN)
