MILTSCI keeps winning ways in Lapu-Lapu Fiesta tennis

-

CEBU - The Mactan Island Lawn Tennis Sports Club, Inc. (MILTSCI) netters kept their hot streak in the third week of action in the 2008 Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta Tennis Tournament billed as “Mayor Arturo Radaza Cup” at the city’s tennis courts.

In the C Plus category, the spirited MILTSCI chargers tallied four more victories to shore up their chances of becoming the most winningest squad in the month-long tilt, which serves as one of the major highlights of the annual fiesta celebration of Lapu-Lapu in honor of its beloved patroness Virgen de la Regla (Virgin of the Rule) on November 20-21.

Rommel Pinote and Titing Augusto sparked MILTSCI’s charge with an 8-4 drubbing of Harris Salumag and Wilson Potot of Marigondon TC. Pepe Dungog and Pablito Tumulak followed suit with an 8-7 cliffhanger over Mario Rizon, Jr. and Mark Diamante of Cecille’s TC.

Not to be outdone, Titing Pejo and Jetjet Lagura bested teammates Vic Quiñahan and Roso Zaragosa, 8-4, in the same way with Norman Pesodad and Atty. Amodia over Harry Ceniza and Jun Augusto, 8-6.

It was not, however, all jubilation for MILTSCI as one of its favorite tandems of Pompie “Nadal” Saturinas and Fermin “Agassi” Aranda fell prey to Mike Padilla and Dodong Lumanta of Virlo TC, 5-8. Also, Alfer Kilantang and Narci Ybañez bowed to Raymund Zambas and Mike Odi of Timex TC, 5-8, while Peter Godinez and Edwin Tuñacao lost by default to Nelson Dayuday and Mike Bacolot of PAL TC.

The C Minus bracket, on the other hands, yielded varied results. Padilla and Pongase of Blue Waters TC edged out Largo and Ledesma of Cordova TC, 8-4, Tambis and Portacion of Camella Homes TC pulled an 8-7 nailbiter over Satur Sanchez and Joel Ybañez of KEPPEL TC, Bro. Trangia and Geligc of MAR prevailed over Tew Belleza and Lester Berame of MILTSCI, 8-6, and Padilla and Pongase of VIRLO TC rallied past Virly Layaguin and Peteluna of MILTSCI, 8-5.

Action resumes this evening with the exciting quarterfinal showdown in the elite Class A division that will be preceded by games in the Ladies, Century Old, C Plus and C Minus categories.

The event is organized by Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Junard “Ahong” Chan assisted by tournament director Junjun Clarito.—EBV (THE FREEMAN)
