Golden Eye forges rubbermatch vs. Warriors in FYA hoopla
CEBU - Former UC Junior Webmaster Dondon Enriquez and ex-SIT Baby Skyblazer Janus Abellana each scored 18 points as Golden Eye escaped with a vengeful 90-88 victory over the Warriors in Game 2 to forge a rubbermatch in their best-of-three finals series in the F. Llamas Youth Association (FYA) 1st Coach Rady Cup basketball tournament at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
Golden Eye was actually heading for a rout as it ended the first quarter with a 29-9 lead. But the Warriors staged a daring comeback in the second period to pull within 33-36 on a basket by Dondon Cadungog with 3:44 left before halftime.
However, the Warriors filed to complete the rally as they still trailed by a dozen markers at the break, 52-40.
The Warriors again showed great recuperative power as it knotted the count at 64-all going into the payoff period.
Cadungog greeted the fourth quarter with a triple to give the Warriors their first taste of lead, 67-64. Another triple by Aire James Alob preserved the Warriors’ 80-77 lead with 3:21 left to play, but Enriquez quickly fired back with a triple to even the score at 80-all.
Enriquez, Mark Arias and Eking Marata then put their acts together when the game was on the line to buffer Golden Eye to a nerve jangling triumph.
Tristan Rama chipped in 15 points for Golden Eye followed by Rosel Tabar with 13. Cadungog nailed 20 points to pace the Warriors, while Chissar Llegunas and Alob finished with 16 and 14 markers, respectively, in a losing cause.
