Historic Hamilton
CEBU - This year’s battle for the driver of the year honors in Formula-1 racing has been one of the most dramatic.
Britain’s Lewis Hamilton did not only win the title by a solitary point, but managed to squeeze in for that extra point in the moments of the Brazilian Grand Prix where he needed to finish at least 5th to win the crown.
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa drove flawlessly for the title in his home country to the delight of the crowd, but Hamilton claiming the overall title somewhat stole the thunder away.
I am not a McLaren fan but I still applaud Hamilton for his win. I am hopeful though that a Ferrari driver will win the title next year.

I recently learned that the La Salle-Ateneo Golf Classic at the Cebu Country Club will be played on November 17 and 18 and not on the 12th and 13th as earlier announced.
This is good news since it will allow the players a little more time to shake off the rust and I hope that this will also allow more players, most especially for the La Salle team, to join.
The tournament will feature an 18-hole stroke play contest and a series of matchplay events to determine the team champion.
La Salle won it last year after Ateneo won it five times in a row. Will the Green Archers keep the crown? I hope so.
There are players who are really very serious about this, which explains why a couple of weekends ago I bumped into Dondi Joseph of La Salle at the Camp Lapu-Lapu Driving Range. I don’t have to say why I was there too.

Jesse Bernad sent me more information about his dream project that seems to have gotten many of our former teammates and opponents from back those days in high school and college excited to be batting again.
In fact, one of the star athletes of my high school class, Kerrwin Sanchez of the Cebu City Marriott Hotel, is already very excited to bring our group to the place.
Jesse is working fast to put everything together for the big day and I promised myself that I would be there to enjoy the outdoor fun and look back to those wonderful years.
I have a very good feeling that this will indeed turn out to be a “Field of Dreams” my friend.
We’re already looking for our old bats and mitts to take to the place.

MILESTONES: I’d like to greet our business reporter and my former schoolmate Ehda M. Dago-oc a very happy birthday. The same goes to my cousin Trixie Lebumfacil, who is turning a year older today.
Belated greetings to twin sisters Sarah and Lala Dychangco, who celebrated yesterday along with Ariel Allera, who at one time was The Freeman’s expert in beauty pageants.
More power to all of you! (THE FREEMAN)
