Partner's Cup set for Jan. 4 takeoff

CEBU - CESAFI Commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy, Jr. announced the other day that the 3rd CESAFI Partner’s Cup will take off on Jan. 4 at the Cebu Coliseum.

Tiukinhoy also said that CESAFI approved the participation of eight member teams during a meeting at the Chibori Restaurant on October 23.

Among the participants will be eight-time CESAFI champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, losing finalist University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), University of Cebu (UC), Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) and Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT).

Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez will act the commissioner with Tiukinhoy and Atty. Baldomero C. Estenzo as organizers.

The tournament, which will last until March 2009, “will to promote basketball development for the upcoming students/players who are qualified to play in the next CESAFI season and to be able to make use of their scholarship.”

The top three finishers in the tournament will get P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000, respectively. On top of these, the winning teams every playing date will get P4,000 while the losing teams will go home with P3,000.

Players who are eligible for CESAFI 2009 season could play in the tournament but those who are graduating in 2009 will be ineligible to play.

DBTC, USP-F and CIT will be able to beef up their lineups, with a maximum of five players, from their respective alumni. The other 10 players must come from their current rosters. (THE FREEMAN)
