Daanbantayan nails cluster 4 title of GUV Cup

CEBU - Daanbantayan pulled of a vengeful victory over Santa Fe to bag the cluster 4 title of the 4th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women yesterday in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island.

The Daanbantayan belles fended off Santa Fe in straight sets, 25-10, 25-17.

Daanbantayan earned a ticket to Santa Fe after surviving a three-set thriller over Medellin during the final of the mainland cluster.

Santa Fe, on the other, proved too strong to handle for the rest of the islanders to advance into the championship round with ease.

Santa Fe wanted to prove that its victory over Daanbantayan last year was no fluke, but Daanbantayan turned out to be the hungrier and more determined squad.

It was the second time that Daanbantayan won the cluster 4 title.The first was in 2005.

Daanbantayan skipped the 2006 edition, but returned last year with a runner-up finish.

After five straight weeks of action, the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA)-organized event takes a break in observance of the All Souls and All Saints Day this weekend.

Games will resume on November 8 with the staging of cluster 5 in Sogod. Cluster 5 has four teams led by defending champion Catmon, host Sogod, Borbon, and Carmen. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
