CEBU – The University of Cebu (UC) once again dominated the 2-day athletics competition of CESAFI at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Both collegiate and secondary teams of UC made the athletics competition a one-sided show.
The UC college athletics team collected 28 medals, but the high school team was even hotter – winning 29 golds.
The likes of Sheena Gacayan, Irin Baluran, Lera dela Calzada, Dharl Pitogo and Lindley Fran Navaja starred for the college team.
Gacayan won three golds in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000-meter events. Baluran contributed two golds by winning the long jump and triple jump competitions. Dela Calzada ruled the 100m and 200m sprints for two gold medals, just as Navaja ruled the same events in the men’s division, while Pitogo won the 110 and 400 hurdles.
South Western University (SWU) was a distant second with nine gold medals, two of which were courtesy of Philip Duenas who topped the 3000 and 5000m steeplechase.
The University of Southern Philippines (USPF) came in third and the University of San Jose-Recoletos ranked fourth.
In the secondary division, Geeann Racuma led the way with four gold medals; Jagna Vlessica had three, while Carl Jeanette Malazarte, Junrey Andales and Jasper Lance Basister won two golds each. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
