Cebuanos off to good start

CEBU – Cebu’s top male volleyball players Jonrey Sasing and Rhovhyl Verayo had a good start in the Asian Beach Games at Sanur Beachin Bali, Indonesia yesterday.

Sasing and Verayo routed Pakistan’s Hafiz Amjad Hussain Shahzad and Zaheer Khan in straight sets 21-14, 21-16 in the first round.

The other Pinoy men’s beach volleyball team, however, lost. Benjaylo Labide and Angelo Espiritu suffered an 11-21, 8-21 drubbing from the Chinese pair of Qiang Yu and Yanglu Li.

The female RP squads including the Cebuana Jusabelle Brillo and Nerissa Bautista, Michelle Carolino and Suzanne Roces had a first round bye.

Another Cebuano bet in the games, bodybuilder Jesus Duga will perform in the 75 kilograms event today. Wrestler Luis Ansag will also see action today in the 75 kilograms category and so are swimmer Paul Abigal Vega and sepak takraw artists Metodio Suico Jr. and Harrison Castañares. – THE FREEMAN
