Golfing for charity

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiones -

CEBU - I received email yesterday from Wendell Yap, one of the organizers of the annual Charity Fun Golf about the eighth edition of the tournament on November 21 at the Cebu Country Club.

This is one of the events that I may not have joined every year, but I have a small collection of three trophies from the previous editions. It’s easy to count them if you don’t have too many hehehe…

This year, a Volvo C-30 is at stake for an ace on all par-3 holes and participants will be classified under handicap categories A, B and C.

There will be trophies for the top three finishers for each handicap class. Entry fee for the event is P3,500.

All the proceeds of the tournament are donated to various charities and I have seen how the amount being given to the different institutions have been increasing.

Among the beneficiaries of the event are the Tzu Chi Foundation, Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) and the Missionaries of Charity. The group has also been donating to The Freeman Foundation.

The tournament will follow the strokeplay format and I understand is open also to non-members of Cebu Country Club.

This is an annual project of the Cebu Friends Forever for Charity Foundation Inc.

I’ll be there guys.

The younger golfers have something to look forward to during their semestral break, the 4th Alta Vista Junior Golf Challenge on October 28 to 30.

The event is open to all players aged 6 to 21 years old. The special division is for those aged 18 to 21, class A for 15 to 17, B is 13-14, C 11 to 12, D, 9 to 10, and E for 6 to 8 years old.

Entry fee for all categories except class E is pegged at P2,000 while the youngest group will be paying only P1,500 per player.

The entry fee covers the green fee, golf cart, caddie, insurance, shirt, food during the awarding and raffles.

The special division along with classes A and B will play for three days while those from classes C and D will play two 18-hole rounds. The competition in class E will be two nine-hole rounds.

The competition will be for both the boys and girls divisions.

Those interested to join can contact the registration counter of Alta Vista at 2727977. This is open to all junior golfers including those from the other parts of the country.

Here’s one more golf announcement before I close this column.

Those who spent at least one school year in a La Salle school and plays golf (the good golfers are most welcome) are invited to join the La Salle team for next month’s 7th La Salle-Ateneo Golf Classic at the Cebu Country Club.

You can contact our team captain San Remigio Vice Mayor Nino Bascon if you want to join the team. You can also see any member of the One La Salle Cebu Alumni Association.

The tournament is set on November 12 and 13.
