Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta tennis fest opens Sunday
CEBU - Action in the Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta Lawn Tennis Tournament billed as the “1st Mayor Arturo Radaza Cup” now shifts to higher, tougher level with the inclusion of the Open A doubles category. The annual event will take off at 3 pm this Sunday at the Lapu-Lapu City tennis courts.
“We are holding this tournament yearly but what makes this year’s edition bigger and more exciting is the additon of the Open A category. This could not have happened without the support of the city government,” said city councilor Junard “Ahong” Chan, the chairman of the organizing committee.
So far, a total of 16 pairs from Cebu have already confirmed their participation. “But we’re also inviting out-of-town players to join the competition,” added Chan.
The entries are coming from Cecile Tennis Club, Mactan Air Base TC, Timex TC, GMC TC, Keppel TC, Virlo TC, Y Club, Marigondon TC, Camella TC, and MILTSCI.
Aside from Open A, the other categories that will be contested are C Plus and C Minus (beginners), ladies (exclusive for Lapu-Lapu residents), and Century Old or those competitors whose combined age reaches 100.
There will also be 16-under and 12-under age classification, which are open only for Lapu-Lapu residents.
Registration fee for Open A is pegged at P200, while players in other categories will be assessed with P250 inclusive of a souvenir t-shirt. There will be no entry free for the age-group classes.
Chan is egging on all the participants to take part in the parade that will precede the simple opening ceremony. Afterwhich, there will be drawing of lots to determine the order of play.
“They should join the parade because after this, there will be drawing of lots. If they’re not present, they will be automatically forfeited,” said Chan.—EBV (THE FREEMAN)
