CESAFI women's volleyball: USJ-R SWU still perfect
CEBU – Defending women’s champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and Southwestern University (SWU) sailed to their fourth straight victories at the resumption of CESAFI volleyball tournament yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.
The volleybelles of Coach Grace Antigua had too much firepower in trouncing University of Cebu (UC) 25-19, 25-18, 25-15.
SWU, on the other hand, beat the University of San Carlos 25-16, 25-20, 25-22, to nail its fourth straight triumph.
Former RP Youth Team captain Genie Sabas starred in USJ-R’s win. She teamed up with Michelle Simbajon, Cristy Aina Laroga, Joy Bonita, Carla Garces, Avegale Getuaban and former USC Lady Warriors women’s basketball team member, Hannah Singson.
SAC awardee Danika Gendrauli, Lorie Mae Layno, Ma. Luelyn Paciño and Elizabeth Emnace provided the spunk for SWU.
USJ-R goes for its fifth win versus Cebu Doctors University while SWU goes for the same number of wins against USPF at Aznar Coliseum.
USPF found no time to bounce back from defeat, to improve its chances for a semifinal berth, by defeating CDU 25-14, 25-19, 25-17.
In the men’s bracket, the USJ-R is on top of the leader board after posting its fourth win by routing USC. USJ-R snatched the victory through the attacks of team captain Jacky Yrog-irog, Ken Abunda, Louijie Tipgos and Ariel Carumba.
This morning, USJ-R will try to take the top spot in next round’s semifinals when it battles last year’s runner-up USPF. – THE FREEMAN
