Consolacion 3-on-3 caging today, sets benefit game for late Daryl Smith
CEBU - As part of their grassroots sports development project, Team Remember of Consolacion Vice Mayor Ember V. Alinsug will be staging a 3-on-3 basketball tournament this weekend at the Consolacion Sports Complex.
Event coordinator Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former star of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws in the UAAP, said the competition is divided into two age qualifications, 17-under and 21-under.
The top performers in the two-day tilt will advance into the championship, which will be serve as preliminary of the final matches of the Consolacion Fiesta Cup Basketball League late this month. Trophies and cash prizes are up for grabs for the grand winners.
Meanwhile, Flores announced that they are spearheading a benefit game at 8:30 pm this Tuesday featuring former PBA cagers such as Bonel Balingit, Gilbert Demape, Marlon Basco, and Jimwell Torion to name a few. They will go up against a slew of commercial veterans in the likes of Alano Caputolan and Michael Almonte among other.
Flores said proceeds of the fund-raising activity will be donated to the family of the late Daryl Smith, who passed away last month a few hours after playing a basketball exhibition match.
Smith, a former PBA import who was part of the numerous championships of the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Jewelers, met both ends of his family by suiting up as reinforcement for several teams in cage leagues around Visayas and Mindanao.
“All is lost now that he’s gone. That is why we are organizing this benefit game to help the family of the late Daryl Smith in whatever possible way we can,” said Flores, who is spearheading the game for-a-cause with Pitogo Brgy. Councilor Ronald Dayday. “With a minimal ticket fee of P10, those will watch the show will surely get their money’s worth,” added Flores. – EB (THE FREEMAN)
