Bio-Fresh, Liquid Tile nail second wins in UABC hoop

-

CEBU - Bio-Fresh and Liquid Tile coasted to their second straight win in Season 2 of the United Architects Basketball Club (UABC) billed as “Davies Cup” last Sunday at the Kinetic Centrum of Benedicto College along A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.

Bio-Fresh toyed with the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC), 61-46, while Liquid Tile banked on a scinatillating offensive in the second quarter to repulse Sun & Rain, 65-55.

Genaro Bejo had 25 points on top of eight rebounds and three steals for Bio-Fresh. Carl Mantos added 16 points followed by Ian Anthony Osmeña with six points and five rebounds as they left the Sportswriters groping for form after taking an early 20-12 lead.

The Sportswriters, who only had seven players, stayed within striking range in the first three quarters before suffering a monumental endgame collapse. Manny Villaruel led the Sportswriters with 16 points and five rebounds, while Calvin Cordova netted 15 markers on top of four rebounds and three assists.

Jay Ramodes, on the other hand, had a solid double-double show of 18 points and 14 rebounds for Liquid Tile, while Erickson Perez banged in 15 points, six assists and five rebounds for Liquid Tile, which trailed by five after the first period, 10-15.

But the Liquid Tile cagers unleashed a crippling rally in the second quarter, 23-4, to erase the deficit and blow the game wide open at the intermission, 33-19. They were never threatened from there onwards.

Raymond Verano was the only double-digit scorer for Sun & Rain with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

In the other game of a featured triple-header, Antonio Decatoria, Jr. and Oliver Tan had monster performances in powering Powerfloor to a 76-63 demolition of Megacryl. Decatoria and Tan fired 21 points each aside from combining for 38 rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Klein Baladya had 12 points and Lord Ong also scored 12 points on top of 17 rebounds and three blocks for Powerfloor, which was in full command of the match after rolling to a 22-13 start. Rhyan Pepito led Megacryl with 18 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.
