Sta. Lucia Golf Tour: Alta Vista hosts second leg

CEBU – The second leg of the Santa Lucia Golf Tour 2008 will be hosted by Alta Vista Golf and Country Club on Friday and Saturday.

This event is participated in by players from eight golf clubs under the banner of Santa Lucia Realty and Development Inc. (SLRDI).

The first leg of the event was held early this month at the Rancho Palos Verdes in Davao City with Alta Vista setting the pace in the race for the overall club honors.

The Cebuanos amassed a total of 52 points and are six ahead of Palos Verdes with 46. At third spot is Eagle Ridge of General Trias, Cavite with 38 points followed by Royale Tagaytay with 28 and Orchard with 26.

Also taking part in the event played using the two-man format and the Molave scoring system are Summit Point, Lakewood and Caliraya Springs.

In Davao, Alta Vista won the group 1 title through Victor Gocela and junior golf standout Irina Gabasa.

The team also won the group 3 title through Deo Gabasa, Irina’s father, and Benedict Uy.

Alta Vista had a first runner-up finish in group 2 through Ramon Sebastian and Richard Lim and a second runner-up trophy in group 3 courtesy of Nestor Mendoza and Gerry Quintos.

In the individual battle, Irina Gabasa also won the class A plum with Dennis Canoy taking first runner-up honors.

Enrico Solon won the championship division plum and Gerry Quintos was the class C champion.

The Cebu leg of the tournament starts Thursday with a practice round, but the actual competition will be on Friday and Saturday. – THE FREEMAN
