Almost won
CEBU - The Sportswriters Association of Cebu basketball team has been swamped with invitations to play in various tournaments and exhibition games.
I see two major reasons for such – one is that the sportswriters are supporting various events by writing about them and that the SAC team would be easy to beat hehehe…
Well, these guys are actually trying to give the others a chance for now because it would not be good for the sportswriters to be writing about how they won the game.
I am not part of the team, not necessarily because of age, but due to injuries that have barred me from contact sports.
Well, the SAC team will have to settle with the “almost won” stories for now.

Game 1 of the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) finals will be played at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Araneta Coliseum.
The alumni of both La Salle and Ateneo, who are based in Cebu, are gearing up for the start of the best-of-three series, which is the fourth meeting of the archrivals in the UAAP championship.
Ateneo has a 2-1 edge over La Salle and again is the favorite of this match up. La Salle would not however just go down without a fight and I am hopeful that the team would pull a major surprise.
I learned that the La Salle alumni would gather at Hamabar at the City Sports Club. This was actually organized by City Sports Club for the alumni of both schools, but my sources said that the Ateneans are planning to converge elsewhere.
It would be nice to see them together though in one venue to cheer for their respective teams.
All La Salle alumni are encouraged to be at Hamabar and to wear green. The Ateneo alumni are also encouraged to go there and wear blue. If you are just a basketball fan and would like to play it safe, go there and wear white hehehe…

MILESTONES: This is going to be a busy weekend as tomorrow my best birthday gift – my son Nico Anton – turns 12 years old. After another year I’m going to have a teenager and it makes me feel old.
Well, I hope he’ll continue to be my golfing companion though as he grows older, he just has to close his eyes when I hit so he won’t have a bad influence on his game.
Tomorrow is also the birthday of coach Glen Ramos of the Don Bosco football team and also of Cerwin Eviota and Feliz Candia.
More power to all of you!
