CEBU - Hundreds of footracers gear up for this year’s World Heart Day Run set on September 28 starting at the Cebu Doctors’ University gym.
The event, carrying the theme “Know Your Risk”, features the 5K and 10K categories. It is organized by the World Heart Federation members and partners.
More than the spirit of competition, the race is a call to action to help people better understand their personal risks for cardiovascular diseases including hypertension (high blood pressure).
Heart health screening and other activities like walks, runs, fitness events, public talks, scientific forums, exhibitions, concerts, and other sports tournaments for the public will be done in over a hundred countries worldwide.
Heart disease is the world’s largest killer, claiming 17.5 million lives each year. That paved the way for the establishment of the World Heart Day, with the aim of creating public awareness on the risk factors of heart disease and promote preventive measures.–Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
