Technically cool

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

Sale!

This is a magic word that draws people to pull their wallets out of their pockets and get those bills to feel some fresh air before handing them over to the cashier. It is also a four-letter word that warms our credit cards. Well, if it gets swiped so many times it can even overheat hehehe…

I was at the Aegean Room of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino yesterday to check out the big sale of Rudy Project. Yes, the maker of technically cool eyewear and apparel.

What would really encourage you to walk some distance from the parking area to the lobby and to the function room near the old Duty Free shop is the promise of a 50 to 70 percent discount.

The best part of going there is that the promise is really true.

Yeng Liggayu, the marketing and communications manager of Rudy Project, who showed me around the place, told me that they have brought a lot of stocks to Cebu for this event and these are 2008 products.

I had hoped to see my good friend Gabriele Boschi, who introduced me to Rudy Project almost nine years ago, but he’s still in Manila.

One thing that drew me to Rudy Project were their shades that offered clip-ons for prescription lenses that allowed me to participate in many events that I once only dreamed of playing again due to my poor eyesight.

The best part about it is that they don’t look like swimming goggles unlike those that I often see, the Rudy Project line lives up to the tag of being technically cool.

The event runs until Sunday and they open at 11 a.m. and some close beyond 10 p.m. The shirts are prized really low and this would be a good time to start buying your Christmas gifts.

I saw fellow La Sallian Gerry Malixi there yesterday buying some green shirts to wear for the UAAP championship series as La Salle faces Ateneo starting Sunday.

Yeng is from La Salle too, but the sale is open to everyone Green or Blue or whatever color you’d like to wear, because there are lots of choices.

I was at the opening of the intramurals of Benedicto College yesterday morning at their new building along A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City.

Their gym is impressive and school president Engr. Sammy Chioson told me that the place was only recently finished and is open to the public, who might want to rent the facility.

The gym has a Taraflex floor, which makes it gentler to aging knees like mine and those of many of my friends although I don’t expect them to admit it.

I thought I won’t be seeing many familiar faces, but when I got there, school directress Lelani Echaves welcomed me and I felt like I was back in high school again as she was our school principal when I entered UP High.

My friends from the OAR community led by Fr. Nonie Morillo, president of USJ-R were also there to play an exhibition game with the faculty. Others present were Fr. Mhadz Lucero and Fr. Rouel Sia.

Too bad I could not stay longer to finish their game.

MILESTONES: Belated happy birthday to Dr. Raul ‘Rocker’ Transmonte, who turned a year older yesterday. The same goes to Camille Villareal, who was once my fellow board member in the SHS-J Parents Teachers Association.

Belated happy birthday also to Ens. Archie Grapa of the Philippine Navy, a fellow UPian and member of the Cebu Squad, who turned a year older last Monday.

Tomorrow, golfer Kiyo Takahashi will be celebrating his birthday.

More power to all of you!
