CEBU - Six-foot-11 skyscraper Greg Slaughter of seven-time University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and 6-foot-9 tower Jun Mar Fajardo of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will meet for the second time this season as they headline their respective squads in the 8th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) All-Star Games this Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum.
Slaughter was picked by fans to lead the Light squad, while Fajardo will banner the Dark side in the league’s annual showcase that promises to be another blockbuster show.
Completing the starting five for the Light team are Slaughter’s teammates Von Harry Lanete and Junjun Lasala, and Southwestern University’s Alfred Belande and Clifford Maguate.
Fajardo, on the other hand, will be playing alongside his UC teammate Edward Pao, and the University of San Jose-Recoletos troika of Armand Ponce, Luther Luke Justiniani and John Malinao.
The rest of the Light squad are UV’s Bonifer Sendrijas, Ritchum Dennison, Harold Cincoflores and Chris Victor Diputado, and University of San Carlos’ John Emel Rowe, Mike Cantonao, Sam Jordan Hermosa, Joven Cid Cortes, Giovanni Padillo and Norman Paul Joven. Their head coach is UV’s Elmer “Boy” Cabahug.
The Dark also includes USJ-R’s Manny Gabas, Kurt Amores, Jabe Delfino and Lyndon Gudez, UC’s Kevin Quilantang and Jannsen Abella, Don Bosco’s Rickmar Perturbos, Rudy Enterina, Jr. and Celso Colegado, and University of Southern Philippines Foundation’s Randy Avila. They will be mentored by USJ-R’s Edito Salacut. The participants for the 3-Point Shootout are Cantonao, Lanete, Belande, Gudez, Abella, Perturbos, USPF’s Jeffrey Laurente and Cebu Institute of Technology’s Eulogio Lamosa. They will be challenged by Chester Cokaliong of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA), Cebu’s well-known shipping tycoon who is widely regarded as “Mr. 3 Points.”
Slaughter and Fajardo, meanwhile, will bring their head-to-head battle to another range as they go up against each other in the slam dunk competition. The rest of the entries are former champion Junjun Lasala, and newcomers Elwin Durano of USPF, Rowe, USJ-R’s Abulaiz Suliman and UC’s Pao and Quilantang. – GGM (The Freeman)
