The University of Cebu paddlers bagged four of the six champion trophies at stake to dominate the table tennis event of the E-Mall Sports Challenge V recently at the E-Mall Activity Center.
The tandem of UC’s Dannel Jay Tormis and Colegio del Sto. Niño’s Jean Phillippe Honoridez, both campaigners in last month’s 2008 International Children’s Games in San Francisco, California, were too much to handle for James and Jerome Impuesto to claim the boys 12-under title.
Dannel Jay later teamed up with John Paul Ba-ay as they crushed UC’s team B composed of Nathaniel Motel and Darbet Tripoli to lord it over in the 17-under category.
Dannel Jay also grabbed a bronze in the men’s open action with Neilben Carreon as partner.
In the distaff side, UC posted a 1-2-3 finish with Jennifer Jacalan and Elonna Dane Tormis leading the cast.
Elona Dane Tormis, however, missed a double victory as she and Marian Ycot bowed to the Motel sisters, Mary Grace and Mary Angelie, in the women’s 20-under final.
While the Motel sisters were unstoppable, their brothers Michael and Emmanuel fumbled in their quest to snatch the men’s team crown as they fell prey to Hua Ching’s Julius Esposo, Jimboy Baring and Handel Yap.
Hua Ching also got the girls 12-under title through the efforts of Vini Ardado, Hanna Antonio and Thessa Teng, who overpowered UC’s Gracelle Suico and Gizelle Andrade. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
