Paco Rodriguez will spearhead the aspiring representatives from Cebu for the World Karting Finals in Suzuka, Japan after dominating the fourth leg of the Kartzone Karting Series at Kartzone in Panagdait, Brgy. Mabolo, this city.
Rodriguez reigned supreme in the KT-100, the class where Cebu’s representatives in the Suzuka circuit will be chosen.
Rodriguez got the pole position with an impressive 27.4 seconds qualifying lap. He suffered a mechanical trouble during the first heat, but came out first in the second heat.
Jan-Jan Gonzales tried to steal the show from Rodriguez, but fumbled as his engine bogged down in the hairpin at the last lap.
Patrick Gandionco came out second, while Jess Garcia finished third followed by Gonzales and Kaine Gandionco.
On the other hand, Jette Calderon bounced back from his loss during the third leg by winning the mini-ROK category.
Calderon’s outmaneuvered Kali Carcel with a few laps remaining and never looked back to wrest the title.
The Carcel siblings, Kali and Tonyo, posted a 2-3 finish, while Christian Peeters and JT Gullas wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bernd Henkenhaf grabbed part of the limelight after winning the Formula 125 class despite racing on a wet surface in all heats.
